In a worldwide effort to address climate change concerns, global leaders have proposed a phase down of high Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants as a part of the Kigali Amendment to the United Nations’ Montreal Protocol. Although the United States as a whole has not yet ratified this agreement, states involved in the U.S. Climate Alliance* are embracing the reductions. Based on proposed California regulations, it is anticipated that many U.S. states will be limiting the GWP for refrigerants used in HVAC applications at a maximum of 750, possibly as early as 2025.

New Department of Energy Requirements for 2023!

On January 1, 2023, the Department of Energy’s (DOE) new minimum efficiency standards for split system air conditioners (ACs) and split system heat pumps (HPs) will go into effect. These new regulations are part of the DOE’s ongoing initiative to reduce overall energy consumption in the United States. These changes will present new complexities, but Carrier is prepared, and we are here to support you through this transition. The minimum efficiency increases for 2023 will once again vary not only by product type but by geographic region as well. In addition, HVAC manufacturers will be required to comply with a new testing procedure for developing efficiency ratings. Carrier’s AquaEdge® 19DV water-cooled centrifugal chiller recently claimed its fifth major award in just over a year. Most recently, Carrier received accolades for the 19DV in Dubai as the 2019 Innovative Manufacturer/Supplier of the Year in the Chillers category at the Climate Control Awards hosted by CPI Industry. The 19DV, the ultimate innovation in cooling and heating technology, utilizes an environmentally sustainable refrigerant with the highest possible safety rating and an ultra-low global warming potential of ~1.

The AquaEdge 19DV was designed to minimize environmental impact while also providing industry leading efficiency. The 19DV’s unique EquiDriveTM two-stage back-to-back compression allows for effective heat recovery, which enables its excellent cooling efficiency at standard conditions to flex up to 120°F (48.9°C) for energy-saving hot water production. Carrier Doubles Up on Product of the Year Awards

The latest verdicts from Consulting & Specifying Engineer Magazine are in with two Product of the Year awards for Carrier. The AquaEdge® 19DV centrifugal chiller claimed a Gold award for its breakthrough technologies, Greenspeed® intelligence and a low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant R1233zd(E), which has a GWP of ~1. The magazine cited its “Updated innovation in every aspect of chiller design including compression, heat exchange and controls technology enables the 19DV to improve cooling efficiency substantially while allowing for effective heat recovery and free cooling all in the same machine. Its simplicity, flexibility and performance make it easy to own and operate.”

The Silver award went to Carriers new Weather Series Rooftop Units with EcoBlue(TM) technology. The magazine reported, “Exclusive, new EcoBlue Technology is designed to improve performance and efficiency while decreasing maintenance and installation costs. The industry’s first beltless direct-drive vane axial fan for rooftop units is just one of many technological advances that prove that not all rooftop units are created equal.
